| Types of Classes The Konocti Dance Academy strives to offer a variety of different dance styles to students of all ages. As our studio grows, so will our class offerings. Our "Stars" Program - The Konocti Dance Team For our pre-school and elementary school age dancers we offer our "Stars" program - also known as the Konocti Dance Team. Students on the Konocti Dance Team take combination dance classes in which they receive training in Creative Dance (toddlers), Tap, Jazz, and Ballet. Each placement level is associated with a specific set of Tap, Jazz, and Ballet dance standards that will be learned by each student over the course of the semester. This is to ensure dancers receive a solid foundation on which to build their future technical training. For more detailed information about each class level, please see our Philosophy page. Konocti Dance Team Placement Guidelines It is our goal to place students in classes where they can learn, grow, and be challenged. If a class is too easy for them, they may get bored. If a class is too difficult, they may get frustrated. We have developed a curriculum that has been tested on thousands of students and works very well for young dancers. Based on this curriculum, the following initial placements will be made: 18 months - 3 Years - Mommy & Me 3 years - TwinkleStars 4-5 Years - Starlets Kindergarten - KinderStars 1st - 4th Grade - SuperStars (Levels I and II) 4th - 6th Grade - JuniorStars (Levels I and II) Middle School - SeniorStars Boys 1st - 4th Grade ShootingStars (Boys younger than 6 yrs should attend M&M, TS, S, or KS classes) Classes are co-ed unless otherwise noted. In certain special cases students may be placed outside of their age bracket. Student placement is always left to the sole discretion of the Team Director. Please understand that in order to maintain the quality and integrity of the Academy, placement requests based on scheduling or car-pooling convenience cannot be considered. Konocti Dance Team Performances Our primary intent for the Konocti Dance Team is to offer a place where students take classes and learn to dance. Though performances will not be mandatory in order to be a part of the team, our secondary intent is for the Konocti Dance Team to be a performing company of dancers. As such, various community performances will arise from time to time (parades, public parties, festivals, etc.). We will always give as much advance notice of these performances as possible, but please understand that some of them come up at the last minute. You are not required to commit to all team performances. You will be asked to make commitments on a case-by-case basis. Please only commit to performances you are absolutely sure you are able to attend. New and Drop- In Students Any student who has not paid tuition must pay a drop-in fee to attend class. When room is available, guest students may "drop-in" to class up to 2 times per semester. This is an effective, risk-free and inexpensive way for new students to try out class and see how they like it. The drop-in cost is only $15 per student for any class, to be paid in advance before class starts. For students who decide to enroll, one pre-paid $15 drop-in fee will then be applied to their tuition package, which is calculated starting the following lesson (enrolled students do not pay for their first class). Students must be enrolled a Konocti Dance Academy to participate in any performances or recitals. Please note: In order for any student to participate in class, tuition or drop-in fees must be paid and current before class starts. Class Attire for Team Dancers Each group of dancers wears their own uniform to class and for public performances. This helps instill a feeling of equality, team spirit, and gives the students something new to look forward to as they progress each year. All required items are available through the Konocti Dance Academy store at very affordable prices. In order to ensure consistency it is encouraged and recommended that uniform items be purchased from the Konocti Dance Academy store. |
